One of the biggest problems I’ve been having is time management. I am one of those people that spends so much time doing nothing that never have time for anything!
For that reason I have been looking for new ways to stay organized with my college work as well as keeping my house nice and organized! Today I have decided to share those tips with you.
1- The one minute rule. I learnt this on youtube, unfortunately I don’t remember where I heard it. What I do know is that it is a great thing to keep in mind. This one is more helpful on keeping my home organized.
It basically means that if there’s anything that needs to be done around the house that will take less than one minute you should do it straight away. Think about it, one minute is nothing and those one minute tasks will very quickly lead to a messy house if you don’t get to them!
2- Always keep a calendar close to you. Some people prefer using their phones to write down any important tasks they need to get done but I personally prefer to physically write things down on paper. For that reason, at the beginning of every semester I print out some calendars and keep them in my college binder. I prefer organizing my life in semesters but obviously you can print out the whole year if you prefer!
Having a calendar always on reach has proven very helpful to me as I find that I’m more likely to do things after writing them down. I use printables I found on pinterest.
3- Reward yourself after you’ve done the job. This seems like a pretty straight forward one but you have no idea the amount of times I have half-finished a task and thought ‘I deserve a little break now’ and then end up not getting off the couch to actually finish what I was doing! I know not everyone is like me but if you are, keep in mind that no matter how convinced you are that you will only stay on the couch for 5 minutes, you most likely won’t!
4- Don’t try to be perfect. We’ve all been there… You plan on cleaning your whole house but you end up spending so much time on that little stain on the carpet that you never get around to cleaning anything else! Believe me when I say that I have done this more times than I’m comfortable admitting. You have to remind yourself that it’s a full time job keeping a house spotless, so if you don’t have time for a full time job, just aim to keeping it presentable! It sounds sad but it’s just the truth. By doing this you are setting yourself achievable goals and that’s the first step to success.
