I have been dedicating a lot of time to my blog (I even went self-hosted last month!). I haven’t been doing it the right way though. Usually, I have a rough idea in my head of the things I want to do: Improve my blog photos, my posts, add more links, add meta tags, improve SEO, improve my social media presence… The list is endless and I feel like I’ve been running around like a headless chicken! Then it hit me: I need to write things down in a list and tick them off one by one. Of course, some of the things on that list are continuous actions but there are some things I want to learn about and implement on my blog and I wanted to get myself organized in doing those!
So that’s what we’re going to be doing in this blog post series! I want to share with you my journey improving my blog and learning more about the blogging world. Feel free to tag along, whether you want to share my monthly goals or figure out your own, we can do this together!
Last month (January) I did a 5-day course on email marketing and it really helped, not only because of what I learned but also because it motivated me to finally get around to setting up my email list! And since we’re talking about it, I’d love it if you signed in! (You’ll get a free blog post planning printable!)
This month of February I want to focus on the following:
Making my own blog planner – bullet journal style.
I’ve always seen bullet journals on Pinterest, they’re quite popular these days. However, I’ve never been one to use a journal or planner (I tried, believe me) for my personal life. Blogging is different, I’ve come to realize. I need to write things down: ideas, to do lists, contacts… You name it, I’ll forget it if I don’t write it down. So one of my goals this month is to make and use a blog planner. I’ve already got a head start on this one since I already have a few pages designed which you might have seen if you follow me on Instagram.
Learning more about WordPress Security
I got around to this one in the worst way possible. Just this weekend I suffered a brute force attack on my blog and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It sounds dramatic but it was. Lil’ old me, who is no expert in computers and programming and what not, received an email on Saturday letting me know my blog was down. Great! I had no idea what to do and couldn’t even access my WordPress dashboard. I had to call tech support from my server provider and have them help me. Their ‘fix’ only lasted about 40 minutes and then it was down again. Moral of the story: I need to dedicate these first weeks of February to learning more about how to keep WordPress blog safe, doing backups and all of that. This is one I recommend you do along with me if you, like me, have no idea how these things work!
Up my facebook game!
I made a facebook page for my blog months ago and it still only has 30 followers…. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I certainly haven’t been keeping up with it properly. I hear so many bloggers talking about how Facebook is a great traffic source for them and I want in on the action! Who wouldn’t, right? Well, this month I also want to focus on improving my Facebook presence. Start posting more and more often and interacting with the community!
Are you on facebook? Then make sure you leave a like on my page! I will like yours too so we can be friends!
Reach 2k followers on Instagram.
This one is pretty straightforward. I have 1,8k followers as I’m writing this and I think 2k is a very reachable goal. I don’t want to dedicate a lot of my time to Instagram this month (Facebook is my social media platform of the month) but I still want to improve my following. And since I am so close to that milestone it’d be great if I could achieve it before the end of the month!
So those are the things I want to focus on for the month of February! Let me know if you liked this kind of post and if you will be taking on the challenge with me!
