I started my Instagram account in September of last year. My goal was to get to a thousand Instagram followers before the end of the year. I had 3 months to reach my goal and it seemed like I would never get to 1k. However, when I get something in my head I can be very perseverant about it. So I spent those first 2 months on Instagram. All the time. And guess what? I finished the year not only with 1k but 1.5k. That’s 500 instagram followers that I wasn’t counting to get and to be honest, after hitting 1k I ran out of time to even be on Instagram a lot. So those 500 came more effortlessly through that last month.
Instagram has been one of those apps that really helped me grow my blog. I’ve shared other apps that I think every blogger shoud have on my blog before, but Instagram is definitely one to add to the list!
I started from scratch and two months after I finally hit the 1k mark and I’m here to tell you how you can do it too!
The one thing that I think is key to any social media is to actually be social. Talk to people, like their photos, comment on them, answer their instastories if you’re already following them. The best way to grow your engagement is to engage with your audience. I have people who always comment and like my photos so if I ever see them on my timeline I will make sure to comment and like as well, and you can build great friendships like that!
Hashtags are your best friend! See, if you want people to follow you, you have to let them know you exist. Using hashtags is the best way to get people to come across your photos and, who knows, follow you if they like your content.
Hashtags also work the other way around. I love searching hashtags like #beautyblogger or #blogginggals to find new bloggers to follow! Again, being social will bring nothing but good things, if you follow loads of people you like, chances are a lot of them will follow back. I don’t recommend following people just for the sake of it, though, your timeline will get full of pictures you don’t like and it just defeats the whole purpose of even having Instagram.
4. Like, comment and then like some more
Being active is another key point. No one wants to follow you if you never post. And like I said before, most people will find you through hashtags, so if you never post any photos there won’t be anything for people to find. It’s very simple really. I know how hard it can be to keep up with Instagram if you’re not blogging full time but using an app like Later really makes it 100x easier for me!
5. Make use of your other social media
Another great tip is to promote your Instagram on your other social media. I think a lot of my Instagram audience came from my Twitter. If you already have followers who like your tweets, chances are they will like to follow you on Instagram too! I keep a few scheduled tweets to promote my Instagram every now and then. It’s a good idea to share a photo of your Instagram profile, so people will know exactly what kind of photos you post and if they want them in their feeds. Posting your best Instagram photos is also a great option, for the same reason.
And that’s how I got to 1k instagram followers in only 2 months. Blogging and social media takes hard work. I didn’t mention here how important good quality photos are to get more instagram followers but I don’t think I even need to! Try your best but most importantly have fun while you do it! I love spending a couple of hours on the weekends taking photos, it lets me have a creative outlet!
Let me know if this post was helpful, I always love reading your comments! Also, don’t forget to follow me on Instagram (see, ‘Make use of you other social media’! haha)
