This week I’m going to be comparing the Voluminous Lash Paradise by L´oréal to Too Faced’s Better Than Sex mascara. I’ve been wanting to write this post for ages! Everyone kept saying that these were a dupe so I was super excited to compare them. I’m also super excited about how these photos turned out! A long time ago I talked about how I take blog photos but do let me know if you want an updated post!
After trying both of these out for months I can definitely say that they are a pretty good match to each other. I’ve even gone as far as to wear both on the same day (one on each eye) and you can’t really tell a difference! When you put them next to each other they look a lot alike, as dupes are supposed to. The packaging is pretty similar: Simple metal-like tubes with a similar shade of pink. When you look a little closer though, the applicators are a bit different. They both have the same hourglass silhouette, which Too Faced claims to help give more volume to your lashes. You can see, however, that the bristles on the L´oréal one are a bit shorter and more tightly packed. The hourglass shape is also less accentuated on the L´oréal than the Too Faced.
As you might have seen (or read) before here on my blog, I’m not really used to high-end products. So I was super excited to try something like this, and see if it was actually that much better than it’s drugstore dupe. Keep in mind that it’ll cost you around 23€ (around 20£) for a full-sized Better Than Sex, while the L´oréal option is around half the price. Also, since it is drugstore you’re very likely to be able to find it on sale.
Keeping that price difference in mind I’d say maybe save those 10€ and spend them on something else. (Maybe that Zoella perfume you can see in the background!! I featured it on my 300£ UK haul and it smells divine! – only cost me around 4£ though!) Don’t get me wrong, I totally get the hype of the Better Than Sex, but I can’t really tell the difference when I compare both on my lashes. They’re both great and make your lashes look a lot fuller and a bit longer.
As you might know, I don’t tend to like a more lengthening mascara, just because it exaggerates my lashes too much and it looks weird on me. I haven’t had this issue with these. They lengthen my lashes just enough and give them loads of volume. Both of them can look a bit clumpy if you’re not careful when applying, or if you apply more than one coat, which I usually never do.
All in all, I’d say these mascaras are very similar to each other, so I totally get why people say they’re dupes. If you love the Better Than Sex by Too Faced then definitely give the L´oréal option a try next time you run out!
